Captain Action

Andy had some tough luck tonight between bloop hits, fan interference and a runner allowed to run out of the baseline. But he hung in there, giving up 4 runs through 6. The Yankee hitters were having equally bad luck scalding pitches right at fielders for much of the night, but Derek Sanderson Jeter felt like winning. He had a single and scored, then hit a two run homer and followed that with a two run triple which put the Yanks up for good 6-4. He must have thought he was Cano. Aceves pitched in and out of trouble in the 7th. Marte got an out in the 8th before Joba came in to get two quick ones. Mo got the save. Vazquez will try to get it going tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Cano Bashes Baltimore

AJ Burnett pitched 8 shutout innings tonight, but he was far from the player of the game. That honor, once again goes to Robinson Cano. Cano hit two more jacks, and missed a third by a foot (it was a double) and also made a phenomenal play at second where he ranged far behind the bag fielded the ball, turned and threw without stopping to set. Just amazing. The players in the dugout were marvelling at him. This is the age 27 year I was expecting and I'm glad to see him having it. He's a heck of a good kid as well as an All Star. Finally back home again tomorrow to face the CWS. Go Yanks!

The Horse

They decided to hit behind CC tonight, putting up 8 runs, to the 3 he gave up over 7.2 innings. The Yanks got a lot of hits, except for ARod and Po, who left after being hit in the knee with a pitch in the first inning. Cano hit his 6th homer, Swish hit his second triple, and Granderson broke out of his slump with two hits. Jete also had a pair of hits. Joba came in with 2 on and 2 out in the 9th and induced an easy grounder. Mitre pitched the ninth. AJ goes tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Yanks Lose

The Bullpen couldn't hold onto a 2-1 they inherited from Phil Hughes with 2 out in the 6th, and the hitters, aside from Cano and Swisher, really aren't hitting. The base running could also use some work. CC goes tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Henderson?

So the Giants do have interest in former Jaguar DT John Henderson. Henderson is supposedly due to visit KC on Wednesday, but they are a 3-4 team and he might feel more comfortable in the Giants 4-3. For all we know, he may even visit the Giants first. If he's healthy not has no fork in his back, Henderson would give the Giants a monster to start next to Canty. What's more, he would give Linval Joseph time to grow and the challenge of beating him out. It would probably also lead to the release of Rocky Bernard, who wouldn't be missed based on last year's work. It's an interesting possibility. There are some reports that the Giants actually tried trading for him during the draft. He was originally a Tom Coughlin draft pick back when Tom was coach and GM of Jacksonville. Maybe a reunion is on the way.

Yanks Lose

Even in their reduced circumstances, Anaheim remaineda house of horrors for the Yanks during this, their first losing series of the year. Javier Vazquez has yet to throw a quality start for the Yanks and the problem seems mechanical. Why hasn't Dave Eiland been able to straighten him out? He should be cruising like the other pitchers with all of that firepower behind him. Marcus Thames was once again awful in left, hurting Vaz's chances. Also, there was more strange bunting that has to be cleaned up. Oh well. Off day tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Dandy!

Andy Pettitte moved to 3-0 with a sub 2 era today as he pitched 8 innings of 1 run ball, striking out 8 and walking none. Joel Piniero was not so lucky in his second start against the Yanks, they rowdied him up pretty good with big hits from Cervelli, Gardner and Cano. Yanks get some revenge and get back on the winning track. Go Andy! Go Yanks!

Giants Take a Punter

Matt Dodge, Linval's teammate at ECU. Hopefully he can replace Feagles. Onto the UDFA's! Go Giants!

Giants Take Adrian Tracy

The Giants just did what I only thought they would do if they were trading Osi: they took another passrusher. Adrian Tracy is a DE/LB tweener from William and Mary who had some absolutely huge, hellraising games in college. He'll probably be in the pass rush schemes for the Giants, but I have to wonder if Osi will be moved at some point. Like all of the other defenders we've drafted, he will improve specials. Go Giants!

Giants Nab Petrus

In the fifth, the Giants took a guard who was probably the last Giant-type guard on the board. He needs to stay low, but he pumped out 45 reps and can pull and trap like the Giants like to do. I think there's a very good chance he starts at left guard in place of Rich Seubert starting this year. Go Giants!

Giants Take Phillip Dillard

In the fourth the Giants picked an absolute clone of Antonio Pierce. Dillard cleaned up the runners who got passed Suh at Nebraska and will do the same for the Giants. He's just 6 feet and around a 4.7 40 guy, but he's instinctive and a good tackler. Nice value. Go Giants!

Yanks Lose

They 8th inning guy failed. That's two in a row. Let's not do this again. Go Yanks!

Giants Take Chad Jones

The Giants added to their safety depth/rotation by taking LSU's Chad Jones in the 3rd. Jones is a big safety, 6'2" 220, who doesn't run great forties but otherwise tests out as a great athlete. He is terrific against the run and in zones. He should be an excellent special teamer to start out, and will probably be better than Michael Johnson pretty soon. Strong pick.

Linval Joseph is a Giant

The Giants probably just shocked a lot of people in their fanbase, but they also just fixed the Defensive Line, by adding yet another beast to it. Linval Joseph is another athletic freak to throw into the mix. He can play the run or the pass and, it looks like we'll go get a lineback later. We still have to fix the OL, too. Great pick! Go Giants!

Day 2

Okay, today we'll see the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the 2o10 draft. Giant fans know we have historically just cleaned up in the 2nd round over the years. Today, there are several players that will be availaible in the 2nd for the Giants who would be great picks. They are Sean Lee LB of PSU; Daryl Washington LB of TCU; Taylor Mays S, USC; Nate Allen S, USF; Linval Joseph DT, East Carolina; and Vlad Ducasse OT/G, UMass. Anyone of these would be great picks and getting Lee or Washington would certainly shut up a lot of idiots. We'll make a great pick.

In the third round, I'm not going to generate a lot of names, but Dexter McCluster RB, Ole Miss, and Akwasi Osuwa-Ansah CB, Indiana (PA) are two of my favorites. There should also be plenty of defensive players and interior OL's available around here. Can't wait. Go Giants!

Giants Take JPP

After their most talked about options were off the board, the Giants went back to their meat and potatoes and took a freakishly athletic DE. The sky is the limit for this guy and you have to swing for the fences at 15. He has an amazing first step, and hopefully, the new DL coach will be as good as the last two at bringing along high upside passrushers. I'll add video later. I'm satisfied. http://www.giants.com/multimedia/

Yanks Lose

CC walked a bunch of guys and the Yanks didn't hit. They did turn one triple play, and CC did contribute a complete game for his friends in the pen. We won the series but didn't sweep. I hope this is not a bad omen for the Giants draft. Go Yanks!

The Ultimatum

Get Spiller or Dez or trade down and get more picks. It's pretty much that simple. When the Giants won SB 42 they were a team on the rise, that looked like they had a large championship window. Two years later, that's questionable. With a strong draft they can get back to the top. With a poor draft, we're looking at more diminishing returns. Let's hit a homerun in the first, then find gems on Friday and Saturday. I used to expect this from Jerry Reese, but all the McClain talk as got me spooked. Go Giants!

Almost!

As you already know, Phil Hughes was utterly dominant tonight as he took a no-hitter into the 8th. Strangely, he was hit by a comebacker that he then lost track of, and that's how he gave up his no-no. He K'd 10 and walked 2. Joba came in to relieve him with two on and one out in the 8th and wasn't as sharp as Phil or as he had been last night. He gave up one of Phil's possible runs before retiring the side. The Yanks only managed 3 runs tonight, so things were tight for Mo when he came in in the 9th. Fortunately, after giving up a hit and hitting Kurt Suzuki, who threw his hip into the path of a cutter, Mo was able to get out of it and the Yanks won. But the big story was Hughes. And the big lesson for all of baseball is "dominance delayed is NOT dominance denied!" We have the best #5 on Earth! Go Phil! Go Yanks!

The Plan

With just over 24 hours untill the picks start, here's what we'd like to see the Giants do. First, it's important not to trade up for anyone. This draft is too deep to be 2 for 1ing anyone. Second, if the value is not right at 15 trade down and get more picks. In fact, other than getting three great players over the first three rounds, the Giants #1 priority should be getting more picks. There are two basic ways to do that. First, they can trade down in the first. Second, they can trade Osi, with a high 2 being part of the package. Third they could do both.

If they stay at 15 they've got to get an impact player. Those that could be there are CJ Spiller, Dez Bryant, Joe Haden, Earl Thomas and Jason Pierre-Paul. I think Spiller is the best bet for somone the Giants would actually take. Bryant would be great with Nicks, but I don't think they'll do it. Haden and Thomas are both ballhawks, though the fact that Kenny Phillips is running makes me think S won't be a first round consideration. JPP is probably the most controversial player I have named here. But take a look at the tape I posted. This guy is a freak and the Giants have a good program for bringing along DE's. He also let's you get your best offer for Osi right off the bat.

Now, if Spiller is gone. I think the Giants should trade down then see if any of the group I've named are still there, or start looking at Iupati, Pouncey, Davis (if he falls), Jahvid Best, Brandon Graham, and Jerry Hughes.

Ultimately the twin goals for Thursday/Friday are to get a great player in the first round, but also add at least one more second round pick. We'll talk more about the second and third rounds on Thursday and Friday. Go Giants!

Yanks Win!

Javy Vazquez finally got his first win in his second tour of duty, but he still wasn't especially sharp. Though, honestly, he really only threw two bad pitches, both of which landed in the seats. His velo was down, but his other pitches were good to filthy at times. Fortunately, the Yanks were grinding. Though they didn't hit a lot, they walked, and a two run double by Nick Swisher and a 3 run homer from ARod gave the Yanks a 6-0 lead at one point. Then Vaz, who didn't last 6, gave up a solo shot, then a 2 run shot on his 106th or so pitch of the night and suddenly it was a ball game. Boon Logan got us out of the 6th, then, thanks a Jeter misplay, loaded the bases up with 2 outs in the 7th. That's when Joba showed up, and he really showed up. He K'd Kouzman of the end the 7th, then pitched a 1-2-3 8th, featuring a 96 mph fastball. Now that's not what we expect from peak Joba, but it's great for a cold night in April. The Yanks had tacked on a run in the 7th to make it 7-3, but when Marte put the first man on to start the 9th, the call once again went up for Mo. Mo got a K, then induced a 4-6-3 DP and the Yanks won! I think Hughes is pitching tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Wow

After struggling a bit over the first three innings, Andy Pettitte settled down to give the Yanks 8 strong innings of 2 run ball. He has really become resourceful and is reminiscent of the way Mike Mussina pitched in 2008. He just looks terrific thus far, and having good D behind him for one of the rare times in his career isn't hurting. The Yanks ground out a lead taking their walks and getting hit by pitches, etc. Tex finally homered, and Posada also hit one. The New York Nicks had a lousy day, collecting just one walk between them. Gardner continued to get on base. Ramiro Pena, playing for an ailing Jeter, had a two out, two run hit with the bases loaded. Mo got the save for the SWEEP! The Yanks are 9-3 with and offday Monday. Keep it going, Yanks!

Trading Osi?

On Twitter, ESPN's Chris Mortenson said it was 60-40 that the Giants would trade Osi Umenyiora during the upcoming draft. While I doubt they will, they need to at least get a second and fourth round pick for Osi. And then at two points during they draft, I would expect them to take DE's. Then the question because, would this draft class support an Osi trade by the Giants. In other words, would there be two DE's available that could fit the Giant model of DE if Osi was traded. After some research, I actually think the answer is YES. If the Giants trade Osi, they must get two from this group: Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida; Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech; Brandon Graham, Michigan; Jerry Hughes, TCU; Jermaine Cunningham, Florida; and, Lindsay Witten, UConn. They might also consider two talented underachievers in Carlos Dunlap from Florida and Everitt Griffen from USC. There might also be some LB tweeners who fit the mold they like in their DE's. So, though I doubt they will trade Osi, I believe they can do so while also increasing DE depth. Go Giants!

Another Good Start

AJ Burnett gave the Yanks 7 scoreless innings as his win moved them to 8-3 on the year. Aceves gave up a 3 run jack in the 8th to make it seems closer. Marte cleaned up the 8th and Joba struck out the side in the 9th with breaking stuff. He still doesn't have a Jobarian fastball. Anyway, Jeter and ARod homered, and Brett Gardner had 3 infield hits and a stolen base. The team was grinding like crazy till it was 7-0 and then they sort of shut it down. They're already won this series and will go for the sweep tomorrow against Harden. Go Yanks!

More Dominance

CC Sabathia was once again pounded the strikezone and dominating hitters as the Yanks won a rain shortened game at the stadium 5-1. CC probably would have had an abbreviated shutout had anyone other than Marcus Thames been playing left. Once again, the offense was grinding and getting on base by hit, walk or HBP. When Tex and ARod start slugging, this team will be something to behold. AJ goes tomorrow, and we'll see if he can continue the "new toughness" approach we saw in his first two starts. Go Yanks!

Good News for the Knicks!

In a bit of a surprise, or not, the NBA salary cap is NOT going down, and so the Knicks can sign 2 max free agents without doing anything else to create cap room. It had been thought that they'd need to cut or buy out Curry if the cap went down, but no such circumstances arose. Curry now becomes a valuable expiring contract in the trade market. Think big, Knicks fans. It's going to be a whole new team. Go Knicks!

Another Series Win!

Phil Hughes won his first start of the year, though he, with the help of the homeplate ump, was a little inconsistent. He should be able to tighten things up going forward, but it was a very nice first start, all things considered. Robinson Cano, who I will need to get more pictures of, continued his maturation with 2 homers and 3.5 good AB's. Granderson chipped in two triples. Jeter added a homer and a double. ARod doubled, and Nick Swisher had two would be homers knocked down by the wind. Marcus Thames went 2-3 as the starting DH. The offense is still a little inefficient, and that's partly due to Tex's sloooooow start, and ARod's lack of homers. However; though they are leaving a lot of men on; they are getting a lot of men on. Robertson came in and allowed a second Hughes run to score, but was otherwise back to his normal self. Marte was alright, and Joba threw some nice sliders before Joe, somewhat needlessly replaced him with Mo, who got a save, even though the score was 6-2. New series starts tomorrow, let's win that, too! Go Yanks!

The End of an Era

With the Knicks season ending loss tonight, here hopefully ended an era of absolutely idiotic roster and cap decision and terrible basketball. With any luck at all, next year, the Knicks will have 2 or three great to good new players to go with the intriguing young core of Gallinari, Wilcox and Douglas. They may even be able to make Curry's expiring contract part of a sign and trade for a good player. It's also probably the last we'll see of David Lee as a Knick. He was one of the bright spots in a very dull era of Knick basketball. But, now that the dark days are over, we'll be covering them regularly -- as if they were a real team again. Because, it looks like they will be a real team again when the new season starts. Go Knicks!

5 and 3

Yanks didn't grind. Vazquez wasn't sharp. Neither was Aceves. Yanks lose. Go Yanks!

Ring a Ding Ding

So on opening day at the stadium, the remaining members of the 2009 Yankees got their rings, but a new member of the 2010 Yanks, OBP Jesus, started things off right with his first homer as a second time Yank. It seems like he and Swisher are always on base, and that's because they so often are. Jeter also homered, but the Yanks were a little innefficient with RISP. Andy pitched 6 shutout innings and left with a 5 run lead, before the pen made it interesting. Park gave up a homer in the 8th, but the Yanks then moved to a 2-1 lead, before David Robertson came in in the 9th. It's unclear what was going on with DRob today, but he loaded the bases and gave up a grand slam to former Yankee Bobby Abreu. Mo had to come in to close it up. But a great day at the park. Two of the highlights involved Hideki Matsui getting his ring, and ailing trainer Gene Monahan picking up his. Aside for DRob today, it;s feeling 98ish. Go Yanks!

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Sad

Obviously, we won't be talking about this crew till some changes are made upstairs.

Gutsy!

AJ Burnett overcame a first inning where he struggled and gave up 2 runs, to work around a couple of insane calls and 6 more scoreless innings as the Yanks pounded the Jays 7-3 to win the series and the road trip. Joba was sketchy and gave up a run in the 8th. He's still not throwing very hard. Mo pitched the 9th with a 4 run lead to get himself some work. The offense continued to function with homers by Posada and Swisher, doubles by ARod (2), Cano and Granderson and the usual assortments and hits and walks. Granderson and Jeter both stole bases. Tomorrow is an off day and then they get the rings! Go Yanks!

Saturday, April 10, 2010

ACE!

By now you know CC Sabathia pitched 7.2 innings of no hit ball today. It was a great performance, and a lot closer to perfect that it looks in the boxscore. Both of his walks could have very easily gone as K's. CC had easy gas, and players like ARod, Tex and Cano making brilliant plays behind him all day. What a special pitcher and team. Cano had another homer and three more RBI's. Tex finally got some hits. Alex continued to. Jete had an RBI single. Frankie Cervelli in his first game action drove in some runs, and walked like he used to in the minors. Brett Gardner did some damage. And Swish did his thing. Oh, and did I mention that Curtis Granderson got on base 5 times? Just a very nice win all around. Let's do it again tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Friday, April 09, 2010

2-2

Believe it or not, Javy Vazquez was more good than bad in his seemingly disastrous return to the Yankee rotation. Javy really only had a bad inning and 2/3's, now, some of that was because of homers, which are his fault, and some of that was because of Marcus Thames in the outfield, wich seems to be the immediate fault of Joe Girardi, but the primary fault of Cashmoney Green. Of course you can't take too much out of a first start. Pitchers are still getting their arms and their stuff back, and in all likelihood, Javy, and CC for that matter should do very well for the Yanks this year. When Javy was sharp early he was cruising, even though he wasn't getting the expanded strikezone David Price, who looked great, was getting. Oh well, they just need to win tomorrow, then try to take the series on Sunday. Go Yanks!

A Yankee Doodle Grandy!

Curtis Granderson didn't waste any time jumping feet first into the Yankee/Sawx rivalry. He won tonight's game in the top of the tenth with a homer of their closer! Sure, he's had a bat ab or two against lefties, but that was his second jack of the series, and he's playing good CF. A terrific night for Grandy, Andy Pettitte, Chan Ho Park and Mo. Nick Johnson and Tex are both still hitless, though Nick walked to load the bases for Tex who put us up 2 in the tenth with an RBI groundout. Big win. Tomorrow's an offday, then it's Vazquez against the Rays. Go Yanks!

Tuesday, April 06, 2010

The New York Nicks!

It was fun to imagine in the offseason, but watching Nicks Johnson and Swisher grind out their ab's through the first two games of the season, just portends great things from pair of on base machines this season. OBP Jesus, in his return has been tutored by Coach Long to get his legs more involved in his swing, and though it hasn't added any hits into his .500 OBP mix thus far, he was showing his old power in ST and it's just a matter of time before the doubles and homers come. For his part Nick Swisher was told to "spread out" by long, a la ARod and Pujols, and that has lead to a quieter bat, and seemingly better contact from Swish through the Spring and these first two games. Nick the Stick is pretty much quaranteed to have a .400+ OBP this year - that's just what he does. But Nick Swisher's BA component could rise to combine with his 90-100 walks and put him on the right side of .400, too. And when you add those two to Jeter, ARod, Tex and Po who are all capable of putting up monster OBP's and you're gonna grind the other teams pitchers into dust by the 5th, like Yanks are supposed to. There are just a ton of great AB's to look forward to this season, and you know, plate patience can be a little contagious. We may even be talking about Curtis GRINDerson and Robbie CanOBP before long. Go Yanks!

1-1

Robbie Cano kept his predicted breakout season going tonight by going 2-3 with a walk, a homer and a sac fly. He's 27 now, and there are tons of lefty hitters, especially, who have broken out at 27. AJ was okay tonight. His D let him down, but his bullpen didn't. Aceves pitched two scoreless innings, then DRob, Marte, Joba combined for the 8th. Joba K'd both batters he faced flashing mid-90's gas. Not Jobamatic, but not 91, either. Mo was throwing 91 as he picked up his first save of the year. In other news, Nick Johnson got on base 3 times without getting a hit. Granderson got a hit off of Lester. ARod had a game tying hit when the Yanks were down 3-1, and Swisher continues to look slimmer and get on base. Nice win. Andy vs. Lackey tomorrow. Go Yanks!

Demaryius Thomas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nDhGrYAx5g
Because of inconsistent QB play, this absolute beast of a wide receiver is currently underrated. Featuring none of the baggage of Dez Bryant, this 6'3" 225 pound receiver has legitimate sub 4.5 speed. Wins jump balls and doesn't get caught from behind. He's also a terrific blocker. Bay-Bay is an absolute sleeper for the Giants at 15 but could be a brilliant pick. He is a true number one, but right now he's being discounted because of his team.

Monday, April 05, 2010

Maurice Pouncey

Junior Maurice Pouncey from Florida is another terrific, and versatile OL prospect. Ranked as the top C in the draft, he can also slide over to either guard spot. So, if the Giants see him as their C of the future, they could take him now and play him at Left Guard until they are ready to replace O'Hara. As with Iupati, if Pouncey is the target the Giants should TRADE DOWN before selecting him in the first. I would think we've alredy listed the five OL's that could be first round considerations for the Giants. However; this is a deep draft for OL's, so don't panic if they pass on taking one in the first.

Mike Iupati

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhFMZROcNZ8
Mike Iupati is a G from Idaho that people have been buzzing about one way or another since his bowl game. He has tackle athleticism but has been a beast at Left Guard in college. The Giants could use a new Left Guard. That being said, Iupati has come under some criticism since the Senior Bowl where the coaches moved him around from tackle to tackl and guard to guard, and where TV cameras caught him using his hands to hold rather than punch out. People then reviewed tapes and found some more interesting handiwork in his earlier games. He has a wrestling background, so that might lead him to some things that NFL refs could see as holding. That said, he is still and explosive blocker and what you are looking for all over your line. But, some caution must be applied and the Giants should TRADE DOWN if Mike is their target.

Trent Williams

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-icEPTOeKhk
Trent Williams is a SR. T from Oklahoma. Like Anthony Davis, he seems to fit what the Giants were looking for tackle-wise when they took Beatty and Whimper. He's a big bodied athlete with long arms and good speed. Doesn't seem built up -- he's just a big human. It will be interesting to see the order in which these tackles come off the board in Round 1. Anyone of them could be there for the Giants.

Bryan Bulaga

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DYk6GzwHC4
Bryan Bulaga is another 20 year old OT who could be there when we pick. Bulaga has good size and weight for the position and is a natural knee bender. There's been some talk of him having short arms, but they're really not that short and he uses them well in all phases. One problem, though, is that he may not be a fit for the Giants. At least not as a left tackle, and here's why: Iowa doesn't pull and trap with their tackles, and that's what the Giants love to do with their's. So it's a matter of whether or not they project him to be able to. Athletically, he's sort of similar to David Diehl.

Anthony Davis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiL8DSVAUJQ
The next several players we will look at are OL's. Anthony Davis, T, Rutgers is one of the most perplexing prospects that could be in the Giants' window at 15. The good: physically he is exactly what the Giants want in a tackle, big with long arms and great feet. He would in many ways be a perfect match for William Beatty, giving the Giants a pair of big athletic tackles for the future. What's more, Davis is just 20. Okay, the bad. I hear from people close to the program that he is not a try hard kid, and may be screwing around off the field. All that said, he sure looks good on tape. So while I think there are red flags, if the Giants do take him, I will know they've done the work and will be happy that we've got bookends. The next few we'll look at are probably safer bets.

0-1

Though the Yanks got off to a nice enough start against Beckett, the pen couldn't hold it last night. Alas. They play again tomorrow it would be nice to win then or Wednesday or both. Go Yanks!

Saturday, April 03, 2010

Dan Williams

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ8_Y_Rgh6w
Dan Williams is squat 6'2", 325 pound DT out of Tennessee. Though he may be best off playing nose for a 3-4, he does show both 1 and 3 technique abilities at times. He can also take on two blockers at times. It will be interesting to see what the Giants do with their DT's going forward. Will they look for a 1 tech nose type, or will they go for the athleticism of a 3 tech type, and expect them to clean up against the run as well as get after the passer. It will be interesting to see. Williams is a guy who could be in our window at 15, but I wouldn't pick him.

Joe Haden

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlj5QWSdGU
Joe Haden, considered by many to be the #1 CB in the draft could end up falling to the Giants and would be an excellent fit. Haden is a press corner who can play zone. He's basically in that Webster/Thomas mold and may be a hair better than both. He will cover and will make plays and wouldn't be a bad idea at all at 15.

Friday, April 02, 2010

Sean Weatherspoon

Now this guy might actually be the right fit in the first round. He's a fast, strong athletic mike who can cover and could make the deep drop in the cover 2. That said, I would prefer the Giants try to trade down and get him. It's a deep draft and picking up and extra top 100 pick, while also getting the right man for mike would be spectacular. There are a few other trade down targets I'll be talking about next.

Giants Sign Grant

The Giants today signed S Deon Grant and rescinded their tender offer to CC Brown. This would have been good news if they had just dumped Brown. But Grant is a player they've been interested in before, and now they have him. It's unclear if this says anything about Kenny Phillips or their draft plans. Seems like a solid pick-up. They also re-signed Feagles earlier, but that wasn't worth posting about. Go Giants!
